During most of my day, including both work time and home time, I continually flip from thing to thing to thing. I am King of the One-to-Five-Minute Task. I do go outside and on road trips for exercise and movies and seeing friends. But when I'm in front of a computer screen, which is most of the rest of the time, it's definitely Short Attention Span Theater.
I'm trying to remember if I've always been like this, and I think the answer is no. I think this started when I got my first job using Windows and email all day long, at about the age of 22. Then it got much more pronounced when I got my first job with a web browser available all day long, at about the age of 25.
Now, 7 years later, there are emails coming into both my personal and work inboxes every few minutes, all day long, whether I'm at work or home, and I can't help but check every time a new one comes in.
Of course, many of my friends have a very similar story to tell these days.
